A new way of looking at fatigue. IQPC workshops 2003: Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane, Sydney

This is a pdf version (9.67MB) of a powerpoint presentation outlining a proposed approach to fatigue manaement. Historically, most regulators have tried to manage fatigue by prescribing how many hours an individual is allowed to work. This has met with limited success. This presentation outlines the argument for a defensible fatigue management approach that is about regulating, measuring and managing prior sleep and wake, rather than limiting the hours that an individual is permitted to work.

Improving shiftwork management (pdf version of powerpoint presentation)

This presentation (46.76MB) outlines a range of strategies for managing shiftwork within organisations. It includes an overview of the historical approach to shiftwork management and outlines a range of human factors that impact on the successful management of a shiftworking population. This presentation also places shiftwork within the context of organisational concerns for productivity and cost assessment.

The process (pdf version of powerpoint presentation)

The various parties that need to be involved to appropriately manage a cultural change of this magnitude are discussed, as are the incremental steps required to implement the change smoothly.
