Drew Dawson was born and raised outside of Detroit, Michigan.  After finishing college with a bachelor’s degree in Communication and a minor in Studio Art, Drew delved into freelance camera work as a photographer, and later as camera assistant on many documentary. independent and studio feature films.  Drew worked under cinematographers Autumn Durald, James Laxton, ASC, Alexiś Zabe, Christopher Blauvelt and many others.  In addition, he learned from many celebrated feature directors - Heidi Ewing, David Lowery, Kelly Reichardt, Kevin Smith, Mark & Jay Duplass, and Gia Coppola.

Drew prides himself on being able to adapt to the needs of each individual filmmaker and strives to tap into the core emotive qualities of the subject at hand. He has found that he is compelled by the concepts of impressionism and surrealism, as they relate to story, and has a tendency to employ negative space and abstraction to bring focus to his images.

Drew has worked with brands Prada, SK-II, Cle De Peau, The Kooples, Macy’s, Uniqlo, Vans, Nikon & Google. His work has been screened at Camerimage, Sundance, Cannes, Austin Film Festival, Dallas International Film Festival, and Sarasota Film Festival.  In addition, his work have been showcased on Vimeo Staff Pick and Short of the Week.  In 2018 he was honored by the International Cinematographers Guild with the Emerging Cinematographer Award.
